ROCKIES HOCKEY LEAGUE PROGRAM

ROCKIES HOCKEY LEAGUE PROGRAM
SECTION 8.0
CMHA operates a select hockey program referred to as “RHL” hockey under the name “Chestermere Lakers”.

Offering more options to our players and families, RHL has provided a program that allow kids a competitive opportunity to compete successfully at their appropriate skill level.

RHL operates in its own league and has its own set of rules. http://rockieshockeyleague.com/
The most significant difference in the rules is that body contact is not permitted in any RHL divisions.

  • The RHL is comprised of teams from associations that have elected to participate in the RHL.

  • At present, the RHL is comprised of the following associations:
  • Airdrie
  • Banff
  • Canmore
  • Chestermere
  • Cochrane
  • Okotoks

  • Teams that participate in the RHL play ONLY with teams within the RHL. RHL teams will not play against teams in CAHL, SCAHL or any other league, without the prior written approval of the RHL VP of Operations and the appropriate Director(s).
  • Teams in the RHL are tiered. Most divisions have two tiers - Rockie and Mountain with Mountain being the stronger of the two.
  • RHL teams have a reduced program regarding practice, game times, and travel.

RHL is open to all CMHA members in good standing and shall be offered in accordance with the registration policies outlined in section 6.10. RHL is not designed to be a learn to skate program. Safety and development concerns stemming from the abilities of any player shall be reviewed with the parent(s) of the player, impacted coaches, and the respective Director to determine appropriate program alternatives.

The evaluation criteria to be used to achieve this objective will be approved by the committee annually. Therefore, the evaluation procedures and criteria used may vary year to year. Generally, the evaluations may include a technical evaluation session and game based evaluations. Details of the evaluation criteria to be implemented will be disseminated to the membership prior to the respective evaluation process commencing.

The evaluation process typically takes approximately 2 weeks and team composition will be further assessed after league games are held with a view to further balance all teams. While it is expected that any movement will be kept at a minimum, the RHL Director’s authority on this question is final.

  • RHL Hockey is divided into 4 major divisions:

  • U11 (Atom)
  • U13 (Peewee)
  • U15 (Bantam)
  • U17 (Midget)

It is the position of the RHL that within each respective division a minimum of teams is required to operate an effective RHL program. In such cases where registration numbers are insufficient, the RHL may elect to operate such specific divisions encompassing fewer teams, not offer the division for the season in question, or look at ways of increasing player numbers within that division.

CMHA follows the RHL policies and bylaws as well as Hockey Alberta.

Policies are important for our players and parents to read and understand.

If you have any questions, please refer to the policy.
