Hockey Alberta Changes Chestermere AA Program

Hockey Alberta Changes Chestermere AA Program

On March 3rd, 2022, CMHA received disappointing news from Hockey Alberta. Our U13AA team will be retracted and we will once again be trying out in Wheatland to play at the AA level. This is consistent with the U15 and U16 and U18 levels.

Hockey Alberta and the four AA leagues across the province formed a committee back in the summer to evaluate the U13AA program across the province in an effort to level the playing field for all associations. They looked into everything from different draw zones, team expansion and team retraction. Unfortunately for us and many other programs, the decision was made for retraction. The committee decided that a competitive draw zone would require a minimum of 125 U13 eligible players and the zone would not move to two teams until the draw zone consistently has more than 250 eligible players. We as the Chestermere team did not have any other associations joining us for a draw zone and our 82 players fell way short of the required 125 to have a team participate in the league.

At this time, we would like to thank everyone involved with our AA program over the years in particular Denica Kapty, our AA director, and our current coach Blaine Ross for all their time and effort guiding our players to be better.
