Coach Information
HEAD COACH
Job Description
  • Serve as the official spokesperson on behalf of the team
  • Coordinate the delegation of responsibilities to the assistant coaches and manager
  • Plan on and off-ice activities in consultation with the assistant coaches
  • Coordinate player evaluation and selection in conjunction with the assosciation mentor.
  • Plan, implement and control pre-game preparation and communication with the team
  • Design the practice plans in consultation with the assitant coaches
  • Coach the team in all games and practices
  • Establish rules for the team and oversee the supervision of the players
  • Submit a year end report which contains the following information - evaluation of players performance, evaluation of team's performance, outline of practice plans and game strategy and reccommendations on how the program can be improved.
  • Report to the association through the Association level coordinatior

  • Strong interest and commitment to child/athlete development
  • Abiltity to work with fellow coaching personnel
  • Ability to communicate on and off-ice requirements to players and parents
  • Available to meet time requirements
  • NCCP and Respect in sport Coach certified at the level indicated by Hockey Canada, Branch and Association

ASSISTANT COACH
Job description
  • Assist with player evaluation and the player selection process
  • Assist with planning, organizing and conducting practices
  • Assist with pre-game preparation
  • Assist with the operation of the team during games
  • Assist with scouting and evaluation of opponents
  • Assist with the supervision of players off and on the ice
  • Assist with the formulation of the game plan
  • Submit a year end report to the head coach containing player observations
  • Report to the head coach

CMHA requires all coaches to registered for courses that are required by November 1st.

TEAM MANAGER

The team manager is expected to be responsive, adhere to and promote the directives of the CMHA Board of Directors and administer the team within established polices and guidelines.
The team manager is responsible for preparation and presentation of a team budget to the parents. The team budget must have the approval of the majority of team parents.
The team manager is responsible for overseeing all administrative duties associated with the team, including:
  • Team budget and financial statements as per request.
  • Hockey Alberta Player Affiliation forms.
  • Submission of the Coach and Player Code of Conduct forms.
  • Arranging for team buses and hotels for out of town travel.
  • Preparing, submitting and retaining copies of all team travel permits.
  • Ensuring all major penalties and suspensions are properly reported and served.
  • Distributing team schedules to parents.
  • Pickup, proper care and return of CMHA jerseys. Make game book stickers. Keep extra jersey’s your team has for affiliates
  • Arranging for referees for all league, provincial and exhibition games.
  • Ensuring proper tracking for use of Affiliates.
  • Ensuring the trading of or return of ice falls within guidelines.
  • Any other administrative duty that may arise from time to time.

In the spring of 2017, Hockey Alberta announced that Coaches and Team Officials will be required to recertify their Respect in Sport - LEADER every four seasons.
The requirement to recertify came into effect May 1, 2018. You can check your RIS Leader certificate
